A
graduate from the Conservatory of Music of Montreal, Mélanie
Barney was unanimously awarded the prize with « high
honours » in the organ class of Jean Le Buis. Over the
years, she benefited from many grants: Wilfrid Pelletier Foundation,
Art Friends, McAbbie and Canimex. She also received a grant
from UQAM's Music Department for an undergraduate degree in
music teaching. In 2001 and 2002, she won the national organ
competition of the Canadian Music Competition. She also won
the “2003 Young Artists Auditions” organized by
the French network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
In April 2004, her organ concert at St-Nom-de-Jésus
church was recorded and broadcasted by the French network of
the CBC, for the “Summer Concerts” broadcast. In
July 2004, she did a concert tour in Germany, France and Belgium
with the little singers of the Maîtrise du Cap, from
Cap-de-la-Madeleine in Quebec.
In Quebec and Ontario, she performs as a soloist in many organ
concert series. She regularly accompanies different chamber music
ensembles, choirs and orchestras under the direction of renowned
Quebec conductors. With the “Organ and Colours” Festival,
she recorded, along with six other young Quebec organists, a
first CD entitled “Génération.Orgue”.
Internationally, she performed in concerts in France, Germany,
Belgium and also, a solo performance at St-Étienne-du-Mont
in Paris. In the United States, she will give an organ concert
at Washington National Cathedral, the first of May 2005.

Mélanie
Barney is titular organist at Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes church in
the Verdun district of Montreal and she is the artistic director
of concert series “Orgue & Cie / Organ & Co.” Member
of the Montreal's Diocesan Commission on Liturgical Music from
1997 to 2000, she is, since 2002, member of the board of directors
of LAUDEM. She collaborated to the production of “J'ai
misé sur Dieu / I count on God”, a CD celebrating
ten years of promoting liturgical music at LAUDEM publishing
house.
