January
31 is a day we, at the Toronto Organ Club, won’t
forget! Our performer that night was a woman from Quebec
who won and wowed all of our hearts with an organ recital
that left us all breathless!!
Mélanie
Barney is
an extraordinarily-talented organist from Montreal
and her
performance
was described by our audience as our
absolutely best-ever!

| The first part of the program was played
on our own Hammond X-66 entertainment organ. This instrument
is 1966 vintage
and is meticulously maintained (and owned) by Fred Oystrick,
club member. Mélanie played Quando, Quando, Quando;
Something Stupid; Tico, Tico; Adios Muchachos; and, many
more memorable popular pieces on this organ. AND, this is
the first time she has even seen an X-66! Talent hardly describes
her; more like magic! |

After
a small intermission, she finally sat down to the majestic
Rodgers Trillium 927. My heart was pounding, waiting
to hear this magical lady put this incredible organ through
its paces. No one in that room was disappointed! Everyone
was spellbound as Mélanie performed heavenly classical
pieces such as Pavane (by Ravel), Dance Macabre, Toccata
in B minor, and many others.
We
are so indebted to Dan Amorim from Roland Music Canada
for supplying this beautiful Rodgers organ just for Melanie’s
concert! He is such a wonderful friend to our club!

| Melanie; thank you so very much for this
memory we will all cherish! Thank you for all your hard
work and dedication
to the organ! The organ may be the “King of Instruments”,
but you are definitely the “Queen of the Organ”!
God bless you! And Vive le Quebec!!! |
