Joe
Carlo
Joe
started playing the organ at the landmark Guelph Cathedral. He
was only eleven years old
when he tackled this
big pipe organ.
A
few years later, we find him on CKCO TV in Kitchener with his
own program. In addition, he played the
Hammond at the Kitchener arena for hockey games and public skating.
Next,
we find Joe on CHCH TV in Hamilton with his own program again.
He wrote the theme music for
“Tiny Talent Time”. Joe played the organ for Tiny Talent Time,
as well.
At
this point, Joe was hired by the Lowrey Organ Company to do concerts,
both in-store and at trade shows such
as the Canadian National Exhibition. At the CNE, he demonstrated
organs in the Better Living Centre with those
unique mirrors above him which allowed everyone to watch his hand-and-foot
work from any angle. Joe traveled
extensively for Lowrey throughout the United States and took time
to record a few LP’s (you know –
those antique plastic discs that they used to use on record players).
In those days, Joe was a travelling ambassador for the home and
theatre organ.
He traveled with a “stable” of Lowrey organists such as Johnny
Kemm.
Our
good friend, Joe Carlo, passed away April 24, 2006.
He touched
the
hearts of so many others through the music that was his gift
to the world.
He will be remembered and loved by those of us who were fortunate
enough to know him..
